Natural Movement Skills: Throwing & Catching

THROWING & CATCHING

Throwing and catching are both great way for people to practise their coordination as well as improving mobility in the back and hips. Yup - it’s not just your hands that are involved here!

Throwing and catching techniques will vary depending on the shape and weight of the object and the distance you will have to throw or catch it.

There are many similarities between throwing and ‘striking’ aka punching. Think about an overhand throw like a spear or a baseball and a straight punch. Both of them will start by pushing the trail leg in the ground and generating force from the big toe all the way up the body towards the throwing or punching arm.

Throwing and striking both require precision and hand-eye coordination. Make sure to not only practice your good side.
