MovNat - Taking Natural Movement to Level 3

Think with your whole body, Move with your whole mind” - This is the Movnat philosophy and this is what brought me and 20 others to Hohe Wand, Austria for the Level 3 Movnat course.

The first thing I noticed was that despite the 15 nationalities, we all spoke the same language. We all spoke the language of movement!

We came from many different backgrounds - Martial arts, gymnastics, Physiotherapy, military service, strength training, the circus – even corporate life. And each of these brought their strengths and weaknesses and gave us different ways to express ourselves.

Learning new movement skills and improving old ones meant we were physically active most of the day but the level 3 retreat also became a mental resilience training with ‘breathtaking challenges’ and a last day packed with tests.

Throughout the days we were studying, practicing, sharing and encouraging each other. In the evening it was time to socialise, tell stories, laugh and relive the action of the day only to mentally reload and get ready for the next day

Despite the varied paths we had taken to get there, it soon became clear that we were all pursuing the same goals in life: to become the most capable humans, to be strong to be helpful and to become skilled in our ‘practical’ movement patterns.

More than ever I came to realise that whilst athletes train to perform at their best on a particular day, we actually want to be ready to perform our best whenever needed! If you’re always waiting for the best circumstances, the best moment or perfect time of the day, that day might never come and when it matters you will probably not ready.

Only when our physical performance is in line with our mental readiness we can be strong, helpful and perform on a higher level.

I took a little bit longer than those 4 days to pass the test. But now I can say with pride that I passed the level III exam (becoming the first Belgian to do so!).

More than ever I’m motivated to show people the way to more natural movement, to help and explore your possibilities and to guide you towards being the most capable version of yourself.
